About Youth@HeartSupporting young people and their families with Congenital Heart Disease.

Youth@Heart is Gloucestershire charity formed by Lucinda Field. It provides awareness, help and support to those with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

Lucinda’s daughter Alice battled with the condition before sadly losing her life in 2013, aged just 22.

Alice discovered that there was little understanding of congenital heart disease, or the impact of living with it, and was determined to do something about that. Nearly one in every 100 babies is born with congenital heart disease and over 85% now live (thanks to advances in medical science) into young adulthood. Across Gloucestershire and the South West there are 5000 of these young people, 600 of whom have complex conditions as well as potentially many more who are undiagnosed and living with a ‘silent killer’.

Youth@Heart was Alice’s vision, and Lucinda now works to realise her dream.

The charity has three aims:

  • SUPPORT: To support young people aged 16-24 living with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in Gloucestershire, and their families
  • AWARENESS: To increase awareness of the challenges of living with CHD
  • OPPORTUNITY: To employ a Cardiac Youth Worker based in the community facilitating opportunities for CHD patients to achieve their potential
    • Trustees undertake a variety of fundraising events from Charity Balls to Mud Runs, Marathons, Quizzes, Fetes, Afternoon Teas, Christmas Fairs – whatever they can to raise much needed funds.
